Welcome to my Blogging from A to Z April Challenge for 2019! The A to Z Challenge is a blogging event held each April. Bloggers create posts from A to Z beginning on April 1st and ending on April 30th. There is a post scheduled for each day of the month (except for Sundays) with each day corresponding to a sequential letter of the alphabet.
We're already on week 2. Yay! Today's letter is G. G is for GO FISH!!
We've struggled to get the boy to use utensils. He's just a much bigger fan of using his hands. So any time I can find an activity to work on his hand motor skills, I jump at it. We talk a lot about scooping and dumping. It helps that he's very interested in his construction vehicles. We have scooped dry pasta from container to dump truck and then drove the dump truck around before dumping the pasta back and starting all over again. He giggles every time we dump the pasta out. Excavator and dump truck are good demonstrators.
But nothing motivates this kid more than water. He LOVES water. He'll regularly play in the dog's water bowl if we let him. So merging a learning activity with water play is always a win around here.
I plopped him in the tub with a small Rubbermaid tote and a ladle. Then I took a basket full of bath toys and dumped them in with him. He loves the little squirter toys (and yes...I know they're a mold risk. I regularly squeeze the water out of them after every bath and they get occasional white vinegar or bleach baths). With his ladle in hand, the task is to "rescue" the animals and put them in the extra "tank" of water.
A simple scoop and dig game lasted for nearly 30 minutes! All because there was a little water added.
