Dewey's 24 Hour Read-a-Thon: Wrap Up

Read-a-Thon Hour : 24+++
Local Time : 10:30am (Sunday)

Made it to hour 21 last night (early this morning) and then the dreaded "I'll just take a little nap" thoughts hit. And so I curled up and took my nap. And then I reset my alarm. Repeat nap. Repeat alarm... You see where this is going. Yes. No more reading. No more read-a-thon...just nighty night.

The good news is that it was a lovely sleep. It is currently overcast here, which is making it even more difficult for me to remove myself from my delightful tent bed, but the sun is threatening to make an appearance at some point during the day.

Let's hit the stats and then do some closing reflections!

Minutes Read Since Last Update: 1 hour 17 minutes
Total Time Spent Reading : 7 hours 20 minutes

Not my best read-a-thon showing, but I allowed myself quite a few distractions without any concern. Meh. I just needed a nice relaxing day with a book and I got it. Read-a-thon success.

Pages Read Since Last Update : 65 pages
Total Pages Read : 250 pages

I actually find it hilarious that this is my total. I typically read about 50 or so pages an hour. This means that I should have rightly been at somewhere around 350 pages. I am such a dawdler. I'm pretty sure I've read more pages in one of my late-night-have-to-work-tomorrow-but-this-book-is-so-wonderful sessions.

Books Completed Since Last Update : 1
Total Books Finished : 2

YES! I finally finished another book. Well...technically it was the second half to the book I was already reading, but what are you going to do. Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass by Lewis Carroll are complete. And they were just as good as I was hoping. Alice never disappoints.

Currently Reading :

The Color of Water in July by Nora Carroll

My original plan for a follow-up read to Alice was Furiously Happy by Jenny Lawson. But...I have a hardcover and I was in a tent illuminated only by what we at the house refer to as Ye Olde Lantern. I was relegated to e-books. And so...without too much thought (red flag), I chose the next ARC in my pile. Granted, it's probably going to be a perfectly wonderful book, but it's a bit more of a calm and languid read at the moment, which suitably lulled me to sleep at a bit after 3am. Oh well...best laid plans.

As a side note, I find it quite interesting now that I picked two authors with the last name Carroll back to back. Funny things happen on read-a-thon days.

How I'm Feeling :

Very well rested actually. :) I'm not wanting to leave the tent at this point, but it has to happen some time. There are things to be done today. Though I will admit that the list of "to do's" is going to remain somewhat influenced by the fact that I have this cozy abode available for the next 24-48 hours.

I have an English paper on Othello that will likely be fully written from here. Finance homework and studying for a management exam? Yes. Also planned to occur here. My poor family may be on their own to figure out meals. I refuse to leave my tent until I have to (with the exception of the obvious needs for bathroom and shower...perhaps some food that is not contained solely of sugar).

Other Things to Say :

All in all, another successful read-a-thon. Thank you to everyone over at the Dewey's crew for putting on yet another fantastic event. I always love when this read-a-thon rolls through internet town.

I hope you all had a wonderful time as well. Now...off to have a mildly productive Sunday!

  2. Congrats Elle. It sounded like you had a fantastic read-a-thon. I never usually bother staying up past two I'm not a night owl, so I really struggle come midnight and I would rather enjoy the book I'm reading and retain the information.

  3. This sounds like a really groovy event. I'd love to try something like that one of these days, if I could stay awake that long and not have other obligations.
