Dewey's 24 Hour Read-a-Thon: Zero Hour

The day has arrived! It's time for Dewey's 24-Hour Read-a-Thon

Darian and I will be hitting the books all day (and night) while socializing with readers from all over the world, eating yummy snacks, and participating in fun mini-challenges.

We'll be tracking our progress and updating it on the blog throughout the day. Updates will be done in 4 hour increments (i.e. hours 4, 8, 12, 16, 20 & 24). We're going to play mini-challenges by ear. They may mean we have to do an increment post a little sooner and then update at the scheduled time, or they may be done as a separate post. We'll just see. We're fine tuning a new system.

While we're reading, you'll also be able to hear from us over on Twitter (@ErraticElle), on Instagram (ErraticElle), and over at Goodreads in the Dewey's 24-Hour Read-a-Thon Group (Elle)

Let's get reading!!

How I'm Feeling : (He's not up yet!)

Since Darian is still asleep (I went to wake him up as he had asked and he groaned at me, so I'll be waking him up at 8 a.m. instead), I'll be doing the opening meme on my own for now. Maybe he'll decide to do his part later...

Opening Meme:

1. What fine part of the world are you reading from today?

We are reading from southwestern Idaho. You'd find us just a little to the left of Boise on one of those cool maps with the technicolor states.

2. Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to?

I'm doing a lot of catch up reading from challenges and my ARC pile, but I'm most excited to read The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum. It's currently 6th on the list though since I'm starting 1/2 book behind my original goal, so we'll see if I get there.

3. Which snack are you most looking forward to?

We have an awesome pile assembled today. I'm actually most looking forward to a recipe that I snagged from one of the girls in the Dewey's Read-a-Thon group over at Goodreads. It's for no-bake energy bites. I'd find the link, but it's somewhere in the sea of scroll from the snacks forum.

4. Tell us a little something about yourself.

Let's see... I'm a small town girl, I would like to quit my job and stay at home to craft and write and blog, but I need to win the lottery first. The dream is to sell our current house and buy some land where I can start a small homestead, raising some animals and growing a nice big garden.

Fall is my favorite season of the year and October is my favorite holiday. We're getting all ramped up here to put together our annual pumpkin yard display. This year's theme is The LEGO Movie and I'm getting to be a big ball of nerves about getting things done in time while still having them look awesome.

Darian is my twelve-year-old stepson. He's a voracious reader and I'm lucky enough that he still wants to hang out with me and participate in this kind of stuff (if he gets out of bed). I'm not sure how much longer that will last, but I'll take it while I can get it!

5. If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what's one thing you'll do different today?

This is my second Dewey's read-a-thon. I'm really excited about it! I'm starting on about 5 hours of sleep after a crazy Friday, so we'll see how I do.

Right now, the goal is to make it through the entire 24 hours. I may take a cat nap here and there, but I want to be awake for the finish line. I'm hoping to spend less time blogging, more time reading, and more time socializing with other participants. I'm ready and excited!!

Ready...set...Read-a-Thon!!

  1. Good luck with pulling a full 24-hourer. I'm hoping to do the same - especially because distractions get so much less frequent once everyone else is in bed - but I wouldn't put money on it at this point. :)

The Wizard of Oz would make a wonderful readathon read - I read it fairly recently and it was so charming and light, I loved it!

    1. So far so good! The biggest problem for me seems to be getting too comfy and warm in the bed.
