Bout of Books Post-Mortem

Bout of Books is over and done. I'm kind of sad to see it go, but a little bit glad I'll be able to spread my time out on other things now. I really need to spend some time getting stuff ready for the Etsy shop (currently set to open June 1st). Things did not go as planned yesterday, so I'm a post shy...but we'll get all the round up pertinent information down today.

The plan for the next couple of weeks is to keep going on this month's theme of books, so there will be a lot of book reviews coming up. I'm also working on updating the new tab system that you can see up at the top of the screen, so that the challenges are all posted and not just displaying "coming soon". I expect I'll have those all ready to roll fully before the end of the month (which is when I'm setting the starting date for everything).

Oh...and if you haven't already, please go check out the 2014 BOTY Bracket Challenge that I'm hosting. It's fairly straightforward. Enter all of the books you read between January 1st and December 31st, 2014 into an NCAA style bracket and then whittle them down to one winner that you'll crown as your 2014 Book of the Year on January 17th, 2015. about we wrap up Bout of Books 10?!

Elle's Final Stats

Currently Reading: A Triple Knot by Emma Campion

When I Read Sunday: We read for the majority of the day. Just a nice lazy Sunday. We even managed to take a nice afternoon nap.

Minutes Read Sunday: 5 hours 56 minutes (356 minutes)

Total Time Read: 33 hours 8 minutes. (1988 minutes)

Goal: 20 hours (1200 minutes).

Pages Read Sunday: 547

Total Pages Read: 1875

Goal: 1200 pages.

Books Finished Sunday: 1

Of Scars and Stardust by Andrea Hannah

Total Books Finished: 6

Goal: 4 books.

How I'm Feeling About My Final Stats: I'm really happy that I did as well as I did. I think I made a pretty good set of goals for myself for this first time taking on Bout of Books. I participated in both of the Twitter chats that I planned on attending...even if we were late for both. We also took part in 5 challenges...higher than the original goal of 4. Not too shabby.

What I Thought of My Bout of Books Experience: I had quite a bit of fun. I kind of crapped out on our 24 hour push once Darian went to bed and only made it until about 2:30 am (instead of the planned 10 am). I think having my reading partner asleep and having my goals already met or close to met took away the push I needed to keep going. It's easier to keep reading and make it through the tough evening hours when there's no one to really keep you company and cheer you on.

Will I participate in Bout of Books 11? Oh, you betcha!

What are your plans for Bout of Books 11? I'm going to build off of my stats from Bout of Books 10. Nothing like always pushing yourself a little harder, right?

Darian's Final Stats

Currently Reading: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix by J.K. Rowling

When I Read Sunday: Fell asleep before midnight hit, so didn't get any hours on this side of the 24 hour push, but did read for the most of Sunday during the day.

Minutes Read Sunday : 538 minutes

Total Time Read: 1230 minutes

Goal: 15 hours (900 minutes).

Pages Read Sunday: 430 pages

Total Pages Read: 1016 pages

Goal: 1200 pages.

Total Books Finished: 2

Goal: 5 books.

How I'm Feeling About My Final Stats: I feel like I wish I had more experience with read-a-thons so that I wouldn't have put my goals too high.

What I Thought of My Bout of Books Experience: It was pretty fun, but I wish I had more reading time.

Will I participate in Bout of Books 11? Yes!

What are your plans for Bout of Books 11? I'm going to make it just a little above what I did this time (so that I need to struggle a little bit to make it), but I'm not going to put them too high.

AND THAT'S A WRAP! We had a great time and we'll be back in August for Bout of Books 11. In the meantime...back to more fun bookish stuff for the rest of May.

  1. Glad you all had fun!! Awesome job both of you. I don't blame you, Elle, for not pushing through since you had already met your goals. I'm looking forward to 11! Though my brain is glad for a bit of a reading rest right now. :)

  2. Congrats! I think you both did great!

  3. You guys both kicked butt!!! I am so impressed by both your numbers--WOW!!! Best of all, it sounds like you both had a lot of fun! :D
Good luck with your Etsy shop opening!

  4. Okay, now I need to make a list of books to read so I can participate in your BOTY bracket challenge.

  5. Glad you had fun with the readathon! What will you be selling in your Etsy shop? I love shopping on that site way too much lol.

  6. These are amazing stats. I got quite a bit of reading done this week now I just need to sit down and write reviews.

    1. I am in the same boat. I have reviews scheduled out for the next month!

  7. Thanks everyone! We had a great time. Things got a little crazy, so I'm actually planning on checking out everyone else's BoB experiences over the coming weeks.

Melanie: Yes! Please do join the challenge! I would love to get a good group of readers together for it. It's really just another good way for me to stack my TBR list. :)

Finley - The Etsy shop will have a variety of products for sale. Most of them are items that I featured in my A to Z challenge this year. First up will be some aprons and some hand puppets, with various coasters not far behind.
