U is for Unusual Holidays

Welcome to my Blogging from A to Z April Challenge for 2019! The A to Z Challenge is a blogging event held each April. Bloggers create posts from A to Z beginning on April 1st and ending on April 30th. There is a post scheduled for each day of the month (except for Sundays) with each day corresponding to a sequential letter of the alphabet.

We're in the last full stretch of the challenge and now I'm finding myself in the thick of it. I was prepared ahead of time for a decent chunk of the posts, then it became that I was a few days ahead, now I'm writing posts the day before they go up. Ugh. That is so much more stressful. But...the show must go on.

National Chocolate Cake Day
Today is letter U and this topic is a bit different than the activities we've discussed thus far. U is for Unusual Holidays. I started this activity trend at the beginning of the year and we've been having a pretty good time with it.

A lot of you are likely familiar with "Talk Like a Pirate Day" which occurs annually on September 19th. Well...there is a whole list of fun and quirky holidays like that throughout the year.

National Peppermint Patty Day
I compiled a list that we use to generate our Unusual Holiday plans for each month. I pick and choose what which "holidays" we want to celebrate and write them on the calendar with all of our other appointments and holidays for the month. It keeps things random and interesting. As an added bonus, a lot of them are food based (obviously you may have realized that from the photos), so I'm able to plan some of our monthly dinner menu and get interesting snack ideas.

National Pecan Pie Day
There are other types of holidays (like Drop Everything and Read Day...which was earlier this month...and National Pig Day...which we celebrate from the farm perspective) and we have a good time doing quirky things that we otherwise wouldn't have thought of. It's something that gives me a little prompt and helps us make extraordinary days out of what would have otherwise been rather routine ones.

World Nutella Day
Are you an A to Z Blogger too? Leave me a comment so I can repay the visit.
