Top Ten Authors I REALLY Want to Meet

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly event hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, created due to a fondness for lists. Each week they post a new Top Ten topic. After that, it's bloggers UNITE! Participate with your own Top Ten post, have fun, and get to know your fellow bloggers.

This week's topic is authors I REALLY want to meet. This one took some thinking.

I'm actually a pretty big introvert and I have social anxiety, so I don't do well in groups or with meeting strangers. Hence...internet. So...even if I were to meet the authors that I really love to read and think could be really interesting to meet face to face, I would more than likely crawl right inside of my shell and not say a word or be incredibly awkward and uncomfortable not knowing what to say or saying something that makes me sound like an idiot. Ya...I'm getting worked up just thinking about it. Aren't I fun?

So...for the sake of this list, let's just assume we're talking about authors I would like to hear a reading from or authors I would like to have sign my books. That's a little less pressure filled and I can totally do that.

Let's see who I wouldn't mind a friendly handshake from (or a milkshake with...that would be okay too...after maybe some Xanax).

In alphabetical order by last name (because I can't put these in 1-10 order...it just seems impossible).

1. Cassandra Clare
Her books are amazing and she has one incredible imagination. I would expect that any conversation with her would be fun and different.

2. Gayle Forman
I don't think I've read a single one of her books that didn't make me cry. I am totally in love with nearly every character she creates.

3. John Green
I enjoy his books, but I like him as a person even more. I follow him and his brother on YouTube and they're always doing something either entertaining or generous (or both). He's brilliant and just seems like an all around good guy.

4. Philippa Gregory
Historical fiction at its best. I haven't met a book of hers that I haven't liked.

5. John Grisham
When I've read nearly every book you've ever written and they number in the double digits, then you must be a pretty good writer. His writing is smart and his plots are impressive. No doubt this man has some stories to tell.

6. Stephen King
Quite possibly one of the most prolific writers on the planet. I've also been told that he is an amazing teacher. His On Writing is on my TBR and will more than likely be read this year. When I think of a writer to idolize...this is the guy.

7. Jenny Lawson
The one on this list I have the highest chance of actually meeting...this fall. She's hilarious and real. She isn't perfect and she isn't afraid to share that with the world. I'm impressed by this woman regularly and I'm convinced we could be best friends.

8. E. Lockhart
She writes books that just read so easily. They are quirky and fun and I imagine that she is the same.

9. Rainbow Rowell
Just...all. the. feels. I don't even know how to describe my feelings for her books. They just scratch my heart.

10. J.K. Rowling
When it comes to amazing authors, this woman is the queen of them all. An entire world written on trains and in coffee shops. She is the dream that every writer has of hitting it big. It doesn't hurt that her novels are epic.

Those are my picks. I'm sure I have a couple that some will highly disagree on, but these are the ones that I would love to share space with (that sounds mildly creepy...).

How about you? What author tops your list?

  1. Oh! Rainbow would be a good one! And I understand the anxiety thing for sure. The ones that I have met... I've been quivering in my bones every time!

    1. At least to a point you assume that they expect a little bit of crazy. :)

  4. Such an awesome list! I very nearly included RR on mine simply because of "Fangirl". I love that book! I've never read anything by Gayle Forman, but I might have to check her out now :) And I'm not a big crowd person either...but I'll make an exception for Jenny!
