Armchair BEA Introduction

Armchair BEA

A lot of my blog buddies are hanging out at BEA (Book Expo America) this week and I'm totally jealous, so when I saw the non-attendees like myself participating in Armchair BEA, I knew I needed to join in.

Today is introduction day...so let's do a little introducing with 5 of ABEA's suggested questions...

1. Tell us a bit about yourself. How long have you been blogging? Where are you from? How did you get into blogging?

Let's see... I'm from the Pacific Northwest...more specifically southwestern Idaho. I'm a dentist by day but I prefer to do other crafty things. I'm a project lover. I'm always finding something new to do. I do a lot of crafting here on the blog, including more and more sewing as days go on, but I also like to blog about books. You'll find a pretty eclectic group of stuff here at EPJ...hence the "erratic" part.

I've actually been blogging for a long time. I can't even remember exactly when or why I started, but I've been running EPJ pretty regularly for about 4 years. It's another one of my notorious projects. I love just hanging out on the blogosphere spouting about random things and making new friends.

2. What is one book everyone should read?

Oh boy, now there's a dangerous question. I have a lot of favorites. I know a lot of people don't really like the classics (and to be honest, I usually struggle with them as well), but my favorite book of all time is Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte.

Of course, since I know not everyone will want to tackle that one, I'm nice enough to provide a back up. A really good (and quick) read... Erin Morgenstern's The Night Circus.

3. What is your favorite genre and why?

I read a little bit of everything. I'm a mood reader, so my choices tend to change here and there. I went through a big mystery phase for quite a few years, then I was really into historical fiction for a while. Right now, I'm loving YA fiction. I just can't get enough. It's so easy and comforting to read most of the time. I like that the plots are easy to follow but the characters, still have depth. I also like the variety of plot choices to run with. I've read a lot of dystopia.YA contemporary also ranks pretty darned well with me these days. But...I still do branch out into other genres.

4. What book are you most looking forward to reading this summer?

My TBR list is gigantic and continues to grow by the day. Right now I have a small stack of books patiently waiting on my bedside table, but I think Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard is topping my antsy pants list.

5. Shelfie time!

I've started doing a lot of e-reading over the past few years, but I still love actual books. I always wish there were more of them. My library is my happy place.

Since this is my first time participating, I'm not quite sure how I'll be doing this Armchair thing. I'll just be rolling with the punches. Happy BEA week everyone!

  1. I love the shelfies! Looks like a cozy room. I really need to read The Night Circus and Red Queen. They're on my never ending list! I'm a mood reader as well. It seems I go through a new genre phase every few months. Lately I'm enjoying mostly adult contemporary and romance.

    1. Thanks Brandie! It really is a great room. It's better in the winter and on rainy days than it is in the winter since it's a southern facing room, but I love hanging out in that papasan chair. I think I'm queuing up Red Queen this evening. I'm pretty excited about it!

  3. I didn't know you were a dentist. I work for a dental software company, Dentrix. I don't know if you've heard of it. So, I know lots about dental practice management. Well, just enough to be dangerous.

I love The Night Circus. Good choice! It's definitely one of my favorites too!

    1. How funny! The world is so small. I've used Dentrix in the past. We currently have Eaglesoft at our office (I've used it for about 11 years now). Practice management can totally be a bear. It's not one of my favorite things...

    1. I think it's a necessity! When we bought this house that was a must have for me. I've always wanted a room lined with bookshelves.

  5. Love your shelfie! Ugh, that's my dream room!
Yay! I'm so glad you added The Night Circus. I need to re-read that, but I loved it a while ago. But I'm with you on YA; it's just enjoyable for me. :)
