Dewey's 24 Hour Read-a-Thon: Zero Hour

Local Time : 8:00 a.m. MST (Saturday)

Today, the name of the game is relax and read! It's time for Dewey's 24 Hour Read-a-Thon!! I'm so happy! Dewey's is a 24 hour read-a-thon that happens twice a year, in April and October. There are participants worldwide and there are all kinds of mini-challenges and social events happening during the day/night. It's a pretty awesome thing.

This marks my third time participating in Dewey's. I've changed the way I do things since my first time playing and I'm super excited to get some reading done today.

I'm starting my read-a-thon just a smidge late. Technically, the read-a-thon started at 6 a.m. my time, but my alarm apparently decided I needed a bit more sleep. It was probably right since this week has thus far been ridiculously long and I've been exhausted for most of it. The extra 90 minutes that alarm failure afforded me will probably pay off.

Let's start off with some Opening Meme questions!

Opening Meme:

1. What fine part of the world are you reading from today?

I'm hanging out at home with the husband and the pet menagerie. We live in the Pacific Northwest in the United States, a little west of Boise, Idaho.

2. Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to?

I've changed the way I work the read-a-thon in order to make things a little more relaxing for me. Part of that is having NO GOALS for the day. I find that I put too much pressure on myself. So, I have no planned books and no planned number of books. I already feel much more relaxed going into things. It should be a great event!

3. Which snack are you most looking forward to?

Now snacks I'm prepared for! I have a sorts of junk and healthy foods waiting for me. There's pretty much zero middle ground, my shopping cart for the event was nothing but fruit and snack foods like Little Debbie cakes and candy. Ridiculous. But my favorite are the snack bites I have waiting for me. I made them last night and I made a batch of Nutella ones. I'm psyched. They're sooooo yummy. The best part is that they aren't that awful for you, they're mostly healthy! Perfect. I'm sure I'll have photos of them later today to show.

4) Tell us a little something about yourself!

I lead a pretty busy and crazy life, so things like this read-a-thon are a total oasis at the end of a week. I'm a dentist in "real life", but I also have a family to take care of and I decided to go back to school this year. I'm currently taking 13 credits of college courses working towards adding degrees in English and accounting to my stack of alphabet soup. This week is dead week, which means finals are right around the corner. I've finished up all of my homework so that I have today free for nothing but sticking my nose in a book. I couldn't be happier.

5) If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today? If this is your first read-a-thon, what are you most looking forward to?

Today's big change is NO PLAN. I'm reading when I feel like reading and socializing when I feel like socializing. There is no set time table. I'll also be taking a few cat naps here and there. I don't have a goal for minutes or pages or books. I will be keeping track of my stats just because I'm a total numbers geek, but I'm not pushing myself to meet some arbitrary goal. I'm just going to enjoy it. I may not even finish a single book (I doubt it, but that could happen) and the thought of that possibility doesn't bother me one little bit.

How I'm Feeling :

I'm excited to get going! I'm also looking forward to the yummy breakfast my husband has promised me.

The Plan :

The only plan is for posting.

I'll be swinging back here on the 6's - there will be an update post at hours 6, 12, 18 & 24. I'll be keeping the format easy, answering the same basic questions for myself and just giving a short heads recap on stats.

I will also occasionally be posting mini-challenges. I have no set plan for which ones I'll be doing, but there will likely be some. Depending on the challenge, I'll either be posting a separate blog post for the challenge or recapping it in one of my 6-hour posts.

I'll also be able to be found flitting about the web during the read-a-thon. I'll be hanging out on Twitter and Instagram while I read and shooting out updates here and there.

Let's go!! Ready...set...READ!!

    1. It's such a great read. I'd been told it wasn't as good as Bossypants, but I disagree. I'm loving her. We should be friends.
