Bout of Books 13: Bookish Survey Challenge

It's day one of Bout of Books 13 and I'm already hitting the books! Before I finish up my first day with a last little bit of reading, it's time to take part in the first challenge of the read-a-thon.

Today's challenge is hosted by Lori at Writing My Own Fairy Tale. It's a Bookish Survey!

Ready for my answers and a little bit more knowledge about my reading habits? Here we go...it's quick and simple...

1. How do you organize your shelves?

I am anal retentive about the organization of my books. I like to have everything in just the right place. My books are all stored in my library where the walls are lined with matching oak bookcases. It's a nice cozy hideaway in our bonus room.

The shelves are divided into three sections. The corner to the right of the door houses all of the children's books (bottom right picture). The far left houses fiction (top). In the far right, you'll find the nonfiction (center).

Both the children's section and the fiction section are alphabetical by author's last name (though the itty bitty kid books on the right of the two children's bookshelves are grouped more by series). The nonfiction is grouped by genre in a fashion similar to Dewey.

2. What is one of your favorite books that's not in one of your favorite genres?

This one's an easy one for me. Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte. Classics are okay, but they aren't my favorites. Jane Eyre though...I've read that more times than I can count. I just adore that book.

3. What is the last 5 star book you read?

It's been a little while. My reading has been a little lacking this year. I had to go look at my Goodreads profile to figure it out.

It looks like it was back in December of last year and the book was Landline by Rainbow Rowell.

4. What book are you most excited to read during the read-a-thon?

I honestly don't know yet. I'm more of a fly-by-er these days. Since I'm a total mood reader, I never know quite which book will strike my fancy. I have a small stack to choose from right now, but I don't know that I'm particularly craving a specific one right now. We'll see what happens.

5. What book do you recommend the most?

This one's a little tougher. I really like Jane Eyre, but I'm quick to admit that it's not for everyone. I probably have talked it up the most. However, the book that I've probably actually told other people specifically "you will love this book" the most often is either The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern or The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger. Both fantastic reads.

And...since I'm cheating just a little bit here...these are my top 5 books for hyping up to others...

How's your reading going? I'm headed back to my book. I'll be updating today's progress in a few hours...

  2. I love your library. It looks like a great room to curl up in with a book.

I always recommend The Time Traveler's Wife as well. It's definitely one of my favourites.

    1. Thanks Cait! It's one of my favorite rooms in our house. It's a pretty good spot for staying warm in the winter and my papasan chair is always comfy.
