Summary Sunday: Memorial Day Weekend Edtion

Whoa. I kind of lost track of time today. In fact, I think I lost track of what day of the week it was. I just now remembered that I needed to write a Summary Sunday post.

It's Memorial Day weekend, which means a little more time at home for both myself and Collin. It's kind of nice. We actually managed to spend some time together both yesterday and today. That was totally a change of pace. Unfortunately, he has to work tomorrow...so it was a short lived event. But it was still very nice to feel so relaxed at home with him.

I took a little time off this week and cut back on posting from what I have been doing recently. After doing the A to Z Challenge, Dewey's 24-hour Read-a-Thon and Bout of Books 10, I really felt drained. So I took a small respite and two whole days off from blogging this week. It was lovely. I've been doing a little blog reading catch up and it's been nice to see what everyone else has been up to.

Next week is the last week of my book-themed month. There will be a small handful of book reviews and then an update on the progress of my BOTY bracket. A week from today, I'll be drawing my selections for the first round of my Classics Spin and Deal Me In Challenges. I got all of the books assigned, so now it will just be a matter of seeing which ones are randomly picked. I'll announce those in the next Summary Sunday post.

After that, it's on to June and a Pinterest themed month. I'll be posting a few recipes that I got from pins as well as doing some of the projects that I've pinned along the way. We'll see what all I wind up getting accomplished.

What about this week? Let's see what I got done...

Posts I Posted: It was a quieter week around here this week, but that didn't make it go any slower. On Monday, I posted my Bout of Books 10 post-mortem, along with stats for myself and Darian. We had a good time reading and I managed to get pretty well caught up on my Goodreads goal.

I posted two book reviews this week, both five star rated books. That doesn't happen often! But both of these books are deserving of the high ratings. Go check out Acts of Contrition and Amy & Roger's Epic Detour, they're both worth the read.

The big post of the week was Thursday's "I'm a Penelope". It was the culmination of a few weeks of crazy blog work. I admitted to my addiction to lists and challenges and then introduced the myriad lists that I have going on up in the top menu bars. The challenges that I haven't already started will all start on June 1st (next Sunday), so things will get (hopefully) productive. I'll be adding an update section on Summary Sundays for progress I make on challenges that isn't addressed in one of the other sections. I'm looking forward to getting some things done and some books read. It should keep things interesting. Oh...and feel free to join in on any of the challenges, quite a few of them are hosted by other bloggers or can be find as groups on Goodreads.

Recipes I Tried: This is one of those categories where I really need to start writing things down. The weeks move by so quickly and blend into one another so that I can't remember what we've eaten this week vs. what was done the week before.

We did try at least one new recipe this week. Even better...Collin made it! I know, it's a completely unheard of thing. Collin actually made something outside of his usual three recipes. It's a miracle! He was nice enough to make the Bruschetta Meatloaf from Tammi at Picture Perfect Cooking. It was pretty easy to make (a requirement if Collin's going to take it on) and it was quite yummy. We're going to modify it just a smidge next time since I have issues with onions, but other than that total home run. There are no leftovers to speak of. Always a good sign.

Books I Read: After the week before's reading bonanza, I kind of took it easy this week. I'm still working on A Triple Knot by Emma Campion. It's pretty good...I've just been letting myself get sucked in to other things. I should be back on the horse a little bit better this week.

Projects I Worked On/Completed: I did a few little things around the house this week, but a lot got left undone. I did finally manage to put my front porch flower pots together; I think they look very pretty. Now...I just need to remember to water them through the summer.

I got a bit of sewing done yesterday in preparation for the Etsy shop opening next Sunday. I'll at very least have some aprons ready to go. Collin has also assured me that he'll help get a few glasses cut during the week. Other than that, the only projects I actually completed some work on were the reading challenge setups for here on the blog. There was a lot of screen time this week.

Favorite Pin of the Week: After a week-plus Pinterest hiatus, I found a few good things this week. My favorite though was the cinder block raised garden bed from I Save A-2-Z.

I'd love to do them in our yard this year, but since we have to have the whole yard torn up in a week or two to have a new sprinkler system installed, it will have to be something that waits. I'm kind of bummed...this is the first time I've actually gotten excited about a gardening project. (I typically have a brown thumb and kill every plant in sight...hence the comment earlier about needing to water my porch flower pots.)

And now I'm going to go back to relaxing. Thank your veterans and have a wonderful Memorial Day weekend!

  1. Even on your days off, you get so much done! Love that cinder block idea, I can almost picture putting flowers all the way around and the veggies on the inside.
