"E" is for Easter

Wow! Day 5. Trucking right along. Today's letter?

And this time of year, E is for Easter!

Continuing my goal this year of making decor for every holiday and not just Halloween, I decided to take advantage of "E" day and make something Easter themed. Two birds and all that.

Before I got started, I asked Darian if he thought I should make another banner (bunting) like I did for St. Patrick's Day. His answer? "Ya. I thought that looked pretty cool." Well...at least the tween recognizes the decor attempts I've made this year, even if his dad has stayed pretty oblivious.

I really liked the book page look of the St. Paddy's bunting, so I decided to go a similar route with this one. This time around though, I did things just a bit differently. I also paired it with a second project. Whoa. Are you totally blown away now? Yep. Two for one. Double project post! I'm just that amazing. (Insert eye roll here.)

As with the St. Paddy's bunting, the thing that took me the longest was figuring out the paper combination. I was able to cheat a little bit since I dug into the stash of paper that I used for the Spring/Easter Reversible Blocks.

After that, I used the Pazzle to cut out some cute little bunny shapes in blue polka dot.

I cut the book pages just like I did on the Saint Patrick's banner and also cut out some egg shapes in a few different colors.

I'll admit that I was kind of winging it with those eggs. I knew what I wanted to do, I just wasn't sure if it would work out right.

I adhered a bunny to each book page...

...and added 1/2 of a cotton ball for a fluffy little bunny tail. (I think that's my favorite part.)

I stapled the banner pieces and the eggs onto some twine and we were good to go!

Plan success!

Now...you're thinking...hey, that was only one project. And you'd be right. I took the above picture before I finished the second project (mostly because I was waiting on some paint to dry and I was losing the good light).

So, let's get on with it.

Originally, I had planned to put some wording on the banner. But in the end, I decided that it would just get too cluttered.

I picked the phrase "Hippity Hoppity" and then promptly learned that I have apparently failed in my family's holiday song education. Neither Collin nor Darian had a clue. Hippity hoppity? What the heck is that?

Ugh.

Anyone worth their Easter song salt (are there really that many holiday songs dedicated to a nonreligious themed Easter?) knows the song of Peter Cottontail. Right?

If not, here's how it goes.

Here comes Peter Cottontail
Hoppin' down the bunny trail
Hippity, hoppity, Easter's on its way.

Bringing every girl and boy
Baskets full of Easter joy
Things to make your Easter bright and gay.

He's got jelly beans for Tommy
Colored eggs for sister Sue
There's an orchid for your mommy
And an Easter bonnet too. Oh!

Here comes Peter Cottontail
Hoppin' down the bunny trail
Hippity hoppity, happy Easter Day.

Here comes Peter Cottontail
Hoppin' down the bunny trail
Hippity hoppity, Easter's on its way.

Try to do the things you should
Maybe if you're extra good
He'll roll lots of Easter eggs your way.

You'll wake up on Easter mornin'
And you'll know that he was there
When you find those chocolate bunnies
That he's hiding everywhere. Oh!

Here comes Peter Cottontail
Hoppin' down the bunny trail
Hippity hoppity, happy Easter Day
Hippity hoppity, happy Easter Day!

Now, I'll admit that my own knowledge of the lyrics fades pretty well past the first verse (and I won't make too much of a comment as to what I think of the "chocolate bunnies that he's hiding everywhere"), but shouldn't the guys have known "hippity hoppity"? I think so.

So this project was pretty simple. I grabbed one of the boards that I got from ReStore for a ridiculous $1 (I love ReStore) and gave it a quick, clean coat of white spray paint.

Once that dried, I adhered letters that I had cut out with my Pazzle, a cute little paper bunny, and of course a poofy little cotton ball tail. You can't have Peter Cottontail without the cotton tail.

I gave the whole thing a light spray of clear coat and then I was done!

Crummy lighting, but you get the idea. Yup...the cotton tails are still my favorite parts.

  1. Hi Elle .. love it that you're so crafty ... the bunny cut outs are beautiful .. and then banner making - Darian will remember in later life ... while I don't know the song - perhaps it's American ..

    1. The song is American...and goofy (go figure). I think it was originally sung by the country singer Gene Autry. Odd place for a song like that to originate I think.

    1. The execution is the hard part around here as well. Things go in spurts. I will admit that the A to Z has helped me get off my behind and get some things accomplished. It's definitely paid off.

    1. I am in LOVE with the bunnies. They were what made me want to make the bunting in the first place. I'm a sucker for cute little animals.
