2012 BOTY: Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (and Other Concerns) by Mindy Kaling

Okay...I am totally a sucker for funny ladies. Plus, I wanted to read this book because - let's face it - the cover is super cute. Let me tell you...this is one book you can judge by it's cover.

Patti had read Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? by Mindy Kaling a couple of weeks ago and she kept saying how funny it was. Well...we all know that I quite enjoyed Tina Fey and Betty White, so I just couldn't pass it up.

I had seen Mindy on The Office prior to reading the book, so I knew she could be entertaining...but she blew me away. The woman is hilarious! She's quirky and cute. Plus, I had no idea that she is one of the primary writers on the show. She has been since the beginning. She has a knack for being entertaining.

In Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?, Mindy reminisces about random events in her life, more or less taking a jagged path to where she is now. Whereas the lack of a start to end plot bothered me with Bossypants and somewhat with If You Ask Me..., it wasn't even an issue here. I loved this book!

She writes with a laid back and easy going style. Completely informal - and sarcastic like nobody's business! She has the best anecdotes and is fully comfortable making fun of herself. I love her. We could totally be best friends. I would hang out with her.

I have nothing bad to say about this book. Nothing. I was hooked from the first page and read the entire thing in one sitting. It made my day. (Not to mention it certainly helped me catch up a little from being 4 books behind on my Goodreads 2012 Reading Challenge goal.)

Unless you're a total cranky pants stick in the mud I'm pretty sure you'll laugh out loud at least once. (I don't think I kept quiet through a single chapter.)

  2. Kaling's book is remarkably enjoyable, and spotlights the writer in a new way.In the introduction, she says she'd like to be friends with Beyonce. Well, I'd like to be friends with her.
